Solon and his wife of 37 years, Nancy, live in Wimberley. He enjoys cooking, working with wood and metal, taking pictures, hunting, and fishing. Solon's two sons live in the Austin area, and he claims that his granddaughter is the smartest and most beautiful little girl in the world.
Solon retired from the petrochemical industry in 2009 where he held various technical and management positions. The last position was the Senior Advisor for some technologies for Lyondell. Since retirement, Solon does a little consulting for refineries and chemical companies.
Growing up in Arkansas with a mother who had a degree in home economics opened his eyes to how careful techniques and fresh ingredients can make food much more enjoyable. After high school, Solon moved south to The University of Texas and earned a Chemical Engineering degree. Solon and Nancy lived in the Houston and Beaumont areas until they retired to Wimberley.
